Geocomposites are drainage products manufactured with three dimensional bi-planar Geonets which are laminated either on one side or both sides with non-woven Geotextiles. They offer light weight, factory controlled, easy installation and environmental friendly solution to traditional drainage materials such as granular stones, gravel and sand. Geocomposites are manufactured with varied widths depending upon customer’s need.

Geotextiles for filtration and separation in road construction Geotextiles are widely used for filtration and separation in road constructions, to prevent migration and mingling of materials, yet allowing free movement of water. In this calculation tool the type of geotextile to be used is described depending on the conditions of use.Geotextiles, as permeable textile materials are used in contact with soil, rock, earth or any other geotechnical related material as an integral part of civil engineering project, structure, or system.Geotextiles have proven to be among the most versatile and cost-effective ground modification materials. Their use has expanded rapidly into nearly all areas of civil, geotechnical, environmental, coastal, and hydraulic engineering. The high rate of erosion and poor drainage system in different parts of the country has led to speedy road degradation and extra costs incurred on road rehabilitation;hence the use of geosynthetics is aimed at controlling this phenomenon.The benefits of a geosynthetic material in any application are defined by six discrete functions: separation, filtration, drainage, reinforcement, sealing and protection.The geotextile acts as a filter through which water passes while it restricts fine-grained soil from entering into coarse-grained soil (sand or gravel) and thus prevent their being washed away and forestall failure of the road.

Geocomposites are basically combinations of two or more different types of Geosynthetic. As most of the individual components are thermoplastic they can be thermally laminated, but adhesive bonding and needle punching are also used.

Examples include: Geotextile-geonet; geotextile-geogrid; geonet-Geo membrane; or what is termed a Geosynthetic clay liner (GCL). There is almost no limit to the variety of Geocomposites that are possible and the development of these materials results from the anticipated usefulness of their multifunctional ties and the opportunity for more rapid installation than by using the individual components. The three main Geocomposites material types are: drainage Geocomposites, reinforcement Geocomposites and fluid barrier Geocomposites.
